No, Eddie Navarro and I (Writer/Director Paul-Anthony Navarro) are not related. We had over 500 submissions when we started the casting process, so it was a task, to say the least, to go through each and every one to find our leading man. The part of Marty was written as a sadistic showman, but as the story evolves, Marty shows a different side to himself--someone who loves his family and has deep regrets. It was a tall order.
We eventually had a Zoom audition with Eddie, Cher Ferreyra (Casting Director), Riley Reagan (Producer), and myself (writer/director, Paul-Anthony Navarro) on a Saturday afternoon. We were blown away by Eddie's vulnerability and bravado!
A Little About Eddie: He was cast as the lead by director David Crabtree in his first feature film "Broken Dreams", which went on to win the award for Best Feature Film at the Other Venice Film Festival in 2010 and 7 other awards including the Honorable Mention Award at the Los Angeles Reel Film Festival (2010) and the Audience Award at the Film Festival of Colorado (2010). He is a songwriter and writes songs with his harmonica and acoustic guitar.
