Yesterday we started to send out our first emails. Thank you all for your encouraging words, and YES, there is a deadline! The VFX artists, composer, and sound engineer need to start their work as soon as possible in order to be finished by the end of November. We need half our goal (35K) by Wednesday, November 8 to start work.
Our journey began with a movie called Outpost. Our determined producer, Riley Reagan, and I were taking meetings to make this sci-fi about a scientist named Marie who goes to a remote desert outpost to investigate the disappearance of another scientist. Then the pandemic hit.
Not wanting to waste this time while the world was shutting down, I wrote Zero Sum Game in a few months and called a friend, who called a friend, who called a friend. Pretty soon we were in contact with a fantastic actress named Cher Ferreyra. I told Cher that I wanted to cast the entire film with Latino actors and she was excited to take the lead in casting our movie.
Cher was born in Queens, New York. She has been a contributing member of The Actor's Lab since 1999, and she has taught the intermediate acting course at their Los Angeles location. Her first major breakthrough in Hollywood was being cast as Loca, one half of the tag team Caged Heat for Women of Wrestling (2000). The program was founded by David B. McLane, and co-founded by LA Lakers President, Jeanie Buss. The program reached various international markets and eventually caught the attention of the UPN Network. The show lasted one season on UPN from 2000 to 2001. Cher managed to capture the WOW World Tag Team Championships alongside her partner Delta Lotta Pain (Jwaundace Candece).
After WOW, Cher returned to acting and coaching while continuing with wrestling on occasion. She is perhaps best known as Fern Delgado on the CW's Veronica Mars (2004). She has done stage work for the likes of Chico's Angels, and she has worked as a talent assistant at The Oscars and Emmys. She has also made television guest appearances for Southland (2009), Weeds (2005), Shameless (2011), The Mentalist (2008), and The Game (2006).
